While I was in Madison, Wisconsin last year working on a new film on the rusty-patched bumble bee with my colleagues and good friends from Day’s Edge Productions, Susan Bence from Milwaukee Public Radio joined us one day and interviewed me about the project. My new film “A Ghost in the Making: Searching for the Rusty-patched Bumble Bee,” which was beautifully produced by my friends at Day’s Edge Productions is premiering today (April 10th) at the Princeton Environmental Film-festival. We are proud to have it premiere at PEFF and were thrilled to see clips from our film in this year’s trailer!

This past spring I officially launched Beautiful Bees: a multi-year project focusing on North America’s native bees. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience so far and I’m only getting started. One species that I hope to draw special attention to is the Rusty-patched Bumble Bee (Bombus affinis). This is an insect that has declined 87% in the last 15 years due, at least in part, to an introduced Eurasian pathogen. Where has the summer gone?
